Iraq War Parents Slam Blair for 'Regime Change' Change
KEYS FOR SEDGEFIELD CAMPAIGN
PRESS INFORMATION - IMMEDIATE
On Friday 22 April at 12 noon three parents of soldiers killed in the Iraq war will be in the Sedgefield constituency to support Reg Keys' campaign to oust Tony Blair on May 5th.
Reg Keys, Rose Gentle and John Millar will take part in a press conference at the headquarters of the Keys for Sedgefield Campaign, address below. John Miller's son Simon was killed with Reg Keys' son Tom, and Rose Gentle's son Gordon was killed in Iraq in June 2004. Also present will be Margaret Cook, writer and journalist, retired doctor and ex-wife of Robin Cook, former Foreign Minister.
Keys said today:
'I am deeply moved that my friends Rose and John, and Margaret Cook whom I have never met, are coming to support my bid to call Blair to account for the Iraq war.'
Margaret Cook said today:
'In his key election interview with Jeremy Paxman, Blair was quite open about regime change, for which he had no mandate whatsoever, being the reason for the war in which these young men died. We must not 'move on' or 'draw a line under' this war - it must be an election issue. We must not appear to endorse the deplorable behaviour of the PM, simply by thinking there is no alternative. The people of Sedgefield do have an alternative - they can call Blair to account for his actions and vote for Reg Keys.'
John Miller said:
'My son Simon put his life on the line for WMDs, not for regime change. He never lived to see that the reason for the war was not WMDs. Blair said in his interview that he couldn't sit on the fence over Saddam ' as far as I'm concerned he hid behind it, and sent our sons to their deaths. I blame Tony Blair personally for the death of my son.'
Rose Gentle said:
'If Gordon had been killed for WMDs it would have made a big difference to me, but he died for a lie.'
NB: Reg Keys will be campaigning in Ferryhill market from 10am on Friday morning.
