The White Suit Candidate

Reg Keys is not a professional politician, but he is the kind of man that a politician should be: honest, caring, committed and trustworthy. Until the death in Iraq of his son Tom, killed in the aftermath of an illegal war, he had no thought of entering politics or becoming a Member of Parliament.

But the war in Iraq changed all that. It was, from the British perspective, one man's war. That man was Tony Blair. In a speech to British troops after the war was over, he described it as "The action that I ordered". Tony Blair is not only Prime Minister. He is also the Member of Parliament for Sedgefield. This election provides the first opportunity for the people who elected him to hold him to account for the action that he ordered. If he loses, he ceases to be Prime Minister. So the Reg Keys campaign is an opportunity for regime change the sort of peaceful, constitutional regime change that was denied to the people of Iraq.

If Lance Corporal Tom Keys had been killed by enemy action in a just and legitimate war, his father would still have grieved, but would have accepted it. But, like 84 other British service personnel, he was the victim of a war that was fought to rid Iraq of its weapons of mass destruction. But the weapons of mass destruction turned out not to exist. Kofi Annan has called it an illegal war. As Secretary-General of the UN, he should know.

This raises questions of truth and trust even wider than the war itself. Can we trust our Prime Minister to tell us the truth? If we cannot, then we have an alternative. We can invoke the Sedgefield solution and replace him with someone we can trust. Reg Keys is just such a man. He has rapidly established himself in this campaign as Tony Blair's main challenger. For once, the election in this 'safe' Labour seat is a contest, not a procession. We live in a democracy based on the will of the people. There is surely a democratic penalty to be paid for going to war on a falsehood.

Reg Keys doesn't wear a white suit, but in he is in every other respect the white suit candidate. Indeed he has been described in the Daily Mail as a knight in white shining armour. He can crown the victories of other Independents, in Tatton in 1997 and Kidderminster in 2001, in leading a people's insurrection against an illegal war, a one-party state and the discredited outcomes of politics as usual.

He is not a single-issue candidate and will not be a single-issue MP. With his 30 years of experience in the NHS, he is well qualified to work with the Independent Dr Richard Taylor, MP for Kidderminster and a member of the Health Select Committee. He will take no whip, but will be guided on all issues by the wishes and interests of the people. And he will live in the constituency.

For the first time in more than twenty years, Sedgefield will have a full time MP.

The eyes of the country, and indeed the world, will be on Sedgefield on May 5th. It will be like a national by-election. No other constituency will matter nearly as much. The voters of Sedgefield will be the envy of all others. By choosing Reg Keys, the Independent and credible alternative, you can astonish the politicians, stand for truth and trust and change the political landscape.

VOTE FOR REG KEYS ON MAY 5TH...POLITICS IS TOO IMPORTANT TO BE LEFT TO THE POLITICIANS...VOTE FOR TRUTH AND TRUST...VOTE INDEPENDENT.
